After Phish’s Friday night show in Miami yielded one of the finest “Weekapaug Groove” jams in recent memory, the band carried over that momentum into the final night with a cohesive show with equal parts improvisation and choice song selection.

While the centerpiece of the show came in the second set, the band’s opening frame of their closing night at American Airlines Arena started with a fiery “Maze” followed by an equally energetic “AC/DC Bag.” After more fun with “Divided Sky,” “Cavern” and “Scent of a Mule,” Phish dipped into the Trey Anastasio Band catalog in “Plasma” before the newer “Devotion to a Dream” and regionally topical “Water in the Sky.” While the first set was limited on improv thus far, the band erased that with “Split Open and Melt,” a 10-minute jam that reached all of the dark corners that are typical of a “SOAM.” An energetic “Character Zero” closed the set.

As previously mentioned, the centerpiece of this show is the second set and the band got it started with “Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan” before launching into the highlight of the run, a 26-minute “Down with Disease.” While “Disease” hasn’t seen a standout version played since summer tour, the first of 2015 set the standard for the rest of the year.

The following pairing of “Light” and “Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley” provided a nice contrast in styles, as the band transitioned from the psychedelic rock of “Light” to the more funk-oriented “Sally” groove. That theme carried over into an impressive “Sand” before the band dug into the penultimate tune in “Harry Hood.” A standout song in 2014, “Hood” once again saw the band patiently working their way to the peak before transitioning into “Suzy Greenberg.” A one-song encore of “Good Times Bad Times” provided an appropriate cap on the night and weekend.
