Umphrey’s McGee made their debut at the Palace Theatre in Albany, NY last night as the first leg of their winter tour came to a close. The band closed in fashion as they delivered two unique sets of music and even welcomed out some special guests.

The first set is highlighted by the rarity “Weight Around,” played for just the eighth time ever. The Safety in Numbers cut has seen more plays in recent years, with three appearances in 2014. Following the delicate number, Umphrey’s brought out Alric Carter and Isaac Teel from opening band Tauk to jam on “Wappy Sprayberry.” Prior to the performance, Brendan Bayliss called the New York rockers their new favorite opening act as the two have been out on the road on this leg and even competed in a series of sporting events and collaborated as “Tauking McGee” for a benefit show.

The centerpiece of the final set came with a rare extended “Hajimemashite” which stretched 14-minutes and ended with an extensive “Breathe” jam before segueing into “Day Nurse.” Later on in the set, the band welcomed out moe. drummer and NY resident Vinnie Amico to fill in for Kris Myers on the “Phil’s Farm” jam. An extended “August” that returned to “All in Time” closed the set before the band returned for a closing of “Bad Friday.”

Umphrey’s will break until March 5 when they return to the road at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA.
