Soulive returned to the Brooklyn Bowl last night for the fifth night of their annual Bowlive run. The group played a few tunes, including a pair of Beatles covers, before Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch joined took the stage for “Up & Out.”

Lettuce saxophonist Ryan Zoidis and trumpeter Eric Bloom (aka The Shady Horns) then came out for a more songs, with saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum joining in a for a few more before Chris Robinson finally made his appearance. The CRB singer immediately went into a blazing rendition of his old band The Black Crowes’ hit “Remedy.” Next came takes on Bobbie Gentry’s “Steal Away,” Willie Brown’s “Ragged and Dirty” and Traffic’s “Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring.”

The songs were followed by a sit in from Meters bassist George Porter Jr., who joined Robinson, Soulive and co. for The Impressions’ “Check Out Your Mind” and the Grateful Dead’s “Brown-Eyed Women” to close out the set. Finally, all the night’s guests took the stage with Soulive for Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle” (a track that was popularized by The Black Crowes in 1990).

Soulive will return to the Brooklyn Bowl tonight for their next Bowlive show. The trio will be joined by Porter, Anders Osborne and more.
