Bill Kreutzmann has announced that he will be giving one lucky fan a free pair of tickets to the final Fare Thee Well show at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 5. The Grateful Dead drummer will be gifting the tickets—or in the parlance of our scene, he will “miracle” a fan—at his upcoming “Conversation” and book signing at Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 19. Kreutzmann will be promoting his new memoir Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams and Drugs with the Grateful Dead with co-author Benjy Eisen at the event.

Kreutzmann made the announcement today via a post on his Facebook page that reads:

I know that so many of you were shut out of Chicago. And it broke my heart to read all the accounts of everyone who didn’t get tickets. Me, I’ve been blessed with on-stage tickets to every Grateful Dead show ever. So it’s about time I spread the wealth.

They let me buy a pair of tickets to our final show in Chicago. I actually paid for them. Before this dream is over, I want to experience the joy of giving someone a miracle, and I want to do it myself, in person. I will do this in Los Angeles next Tuesday, May 19th during my “Conversation with” event with my co-author, Benjy. You see, I’ll pick a random seat number from some random number picker contraption and the person in that seat will suddenly have two seats to Chicago on July 5th. Because I DO believe in miracles. Every single day.

(And for those who can’t make it to LA, I’m working on some other cool ideas, too. Because giving is even better than getting.)

Still grateful,
Billy Kreutzmann

For those of you that are still looking for a miracle to the Chicago Fare Thee Well run, Relix is currently running a contest that will give a pair of GA ticket to all three nights to one lucky winner.
