Umphrey’s McGee will offer up a coveted archival release in the form of their October 22, 2004 show from the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA. The show is special for a few reasons, as it marked the debut of UM original “Great American” and featured a sit-in from Phil Lesh in the second set.
Lesh replaced UM bassist Ryan Stasik after the opening “2nd Self” for the end of “Robot World” that led into a cover of “Franklin’s Tower.” The last time the band had performed the Grateful Dead tune was 4/24/1998, making it a huge bustout.
Additional highlights from the show include a “Divisions” > “Glory” > “Divisions” as well as a “Hot For Teacher” cover and an extensive “Hurt Bird Bath” with “Making Flippy Floppy” in the middle of the jam section.
The show is available for download here.
