Phish closed out their tenth festival, Magnaball, last night with yet another standout evening that featured more callbacks to the band’s Chilling, Thrilling Sounds set in Las Vegas as well as a slew of noteworthy jams.

The first set proved to be a nice way to ease into the evening after a rather lengthy undertaking on Saturday. The group came out with an energetic “Punch You in the Eye” before moving into the first “Buffalo Bill” since 2012. Other highlights included a particularly fiery “A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing” that led into “Limb By Limb.” Anastasio and Page McConnell teamed up on “Maze” to create a frantic tension and release segment.

During “I Didn’t Know,” Anastasio took some time to thank the band’s crew and others involved in creating their tenth festival. He mentioned the band’s longtime crew members as well as those involved with the many art installations found throughout the grounds. The guitarist got choked up when talking about Richard Glasgow, saying that none of this would be possible without him. “If he leaves us, we’ll cry,” Jon Fishman chimed in. With that, the group brought the set to a close with a standardly energetic “Character Zero.”

For the final frame of Magnaball, Phish opted to call back to “Martian Monster,” a tune from their Chilling, Thrilling Sounds set and the one that spawned the “your trip is short” line that fans seem to latch onto. Opening with the sample played over the PA, the group dipped into the heavy funk groove before muddying it up and leading into “Down with Disease,” the evening’s largest and most expansive jam, as the group made the 15-minute rendition look and sound nearly effortless.

Just as effortless was the segue into “Scents & Subtle Sounds,” just the second on the year. The transition to the intro was flawless and served as one of the highlights of the night. After a particularly dark jam, Anastasio slipped into “What’s the Use?” with, yet again, expert precision. A well-placed “Dirt” triggered the end run of the set which included a “Mike’s Groove” that included “Fuego” and an inventive “Twist” that featured teases of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” During the subsequent “Weekapaug Groove,” the group also dabbled in some “Immigrant Song” before bringing the night to a close. “You Enjoy Myself” closed the night and triggered a fireworks display as well as a quote from “The Very Long Fuse,” signaling the end of the festival.

Next up for the band is a three-day stop at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, CO.
