Noted photographer and longtime Relix contributor Jay Blakesberg hosted a release party for his latest book Hippie Chick this past Monday. The event took place at San Rafael, CA’s Terrapin Crossroads and, keeping with the night’s theme, boasted an all-women fronted band featuring Nicki Bluhm, Elliott Peck, Victoria George, Paige Clem, Jeannette Ferber and the Shook twins, among others. Venue founder and longtime Blakesberg subject Phil Lesh also performed during the celebration. First, he joined Bluhm for a take on The Great Society/Jefferson Airplane classic “Somebody to Love” and then, he aided Peck on Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough ( To Take My Man ).”

This evening Terrapin Crossroads will host the Dave Nelson Band. Nelson recently joined Lesh at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre for a few November shows.
