Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their New Year’s run at The Fillmore in Denver with a two set show that included a nod to Motorhead’s Lemmy, who passed away after a battle with cancer.

During “Utopian Fir,” the band dropped into a snippet of Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine” during the intro. Lemmy was involved with the English space rock project before being fired by the band in 1975. He would then go on to form Motorhead, named after the final song he wrote for Hawkwind.

Umphrey’s typically uses the brief interlude in “Utopian” to drop into a snippet of a cover song, with past versions including clips of tunes from Metallica, Zeppelin, AC/DC and more.

Other highlights from the show include the second “Attachments” ever, which debuted earlier this month. The band also dipped into a vocal “Jimmy Stewart” after “Robot World” and delivered the rarity “The Fuzz” later on in the second set.

The band returns to the stage tonight to ring in the new year.
