The Disco Biscuits rang in 2016 with three sets at New York’s PlayStation Theater, including a final set that featured an all-improvised score to the original Tron movie from 1982.

Before the epic third set, the band counted down to the new year in set number two during a run of Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig’s “Hot Air Balloon,” then continued the flying theme by starting a “Helicopters” that flowed into “Feeling Twisted” and “Pimp Blue Rikki.” During the beginning of set-closer “Spaga,” the band debuted a short cover of Europe’s “Final Countdown.”

During the second set break, a screen came down in front of the stage and began playing Tron. The Biscuits then gathered behind the movie screen and began their improvised score. The band has done jam-scores like this before, including the famous Akira set of New Year’s Eve 1999 where the band improvised a score to Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 sci-fi classic.

At the end of Tron, a helicopter appeared and the screen that was projecting the movie dropped, revealing the band, who promptly jumped into “Helicopters” again to finish out the song from earlier in the night and to round out the final set. The guys also threw in the traditional “Happy New Year, look out below!” lyrics for good measure.

The band returned to the stage to give the fans one more tune in the form of a “Highwire” encore that completed the night. The Biscuits will continue their PlayStation run tonight and tomorrow.

Here’s a look at the setlist as it appears in our Box Scores section:
