Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their The River tour last night at Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center. Among the highlights were a full run through of Springsteen’s 1980 record, which he will perform at each stop on the lengthy tour.

During the six-song encore, Springsteen paused for a moment following the set-closing “Thunder Road” to pay homage to David Bowie.

“A lot of people don’t know but he supported our music way back in the beginning,” Springsteen told the crowd. He also recounted a story of visiting Bowie while he was recording Young Americans in Philadelphia before launching into a cover of “Rebel Rebel,” a debut for the E Street Band.

Springsteen’s tour continues January 19 in Chicago, IL.
