Yesterday, Widespread Panic geared up for their fifth Panic en La Playa at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico, with a soundcheck that featured the return of founding drummer Todd Nance.

Nance took a leave of absence from the band due to undisclosed personal reasons in the fall of 2014. The soundcheck included a run of “Surprise Valley” into “Low Spark” into “You Should Be Glad,” the first appearance of the tune since Nance’s last show on September 14, 2014.

The drummer has been absent for 94 shows, with Hard Working Americans’ Duane Trucks filling in. Panic en La Playa Cinco kicks off tonight, and the run will include several special guests, including The New Mastersounds, Playa All-stars (featuring George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Eric Krasno, Col. Bruce Hampton, Randall Bramblett, Nikki Glaspie, and Jennifer Hartswick), Patterson Hood, Todd Snider and Jerry Joseph.
