Last night at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico, Widespread Panic played the first night of their Panic en La Playa destination event, welcoming back drummer Todd Nance and playing several tunes that hadn’t been heard since Nance’s departure in the process.

As the band geared up for the opening set, Nance tested out his drum sound with a couple hits before the group rumbled into opener “Climb to Safety,” officially welcoming Nance back after over a year absence from the Panic stage. That tune, which can be viewed below thanks to YouTube user MrTopdogger, led into a cover of JJ Cale’s “Ride Me High.” The first set also included a “You Should Be Glad” that hadn’t been played since Nance’s last show on September 14, 2014.

After closing out set one with an “Up All Night” that featured a “Solid Rock” interlude, the song’s first appearance since July 6, 2014, Panic opened the second frame with “From the Cradle,” whose last showing on a setlist was just prior to that, on July 2, 2014. The second set featured one more throwback, as the band brought out “Papa Johnny Road” for the first time since June 27, 2014.

The band finished off the opening night with a encore that featured “All Time Low” and “Flicker.” Panic will return to the Hard Rock stage tonight for night two of PELP.
