Band of Horses has announced that their new album, Why Are You OK will be released in June. The record will be the follow-up to 2012’s Mirage Rock.

The album was produced by Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle and was recorded in Stinson Beach, CA, and Woodstock, NY. “I didn’t want to just pander to our previous records or maybe even our most fruitful period,” frontman Ben Bridwell tells Entertainment Weekly, “but at the same time I definitely attempted to tap into a lot of that stuff throughout.”

The singer also notes that producer Rick Rubin, who helped them get signed to Columbia earlier in their career, influenced the album with a short meeting. “It was a pivotal moment,” Bridwell says. “Like an angel he appears: ‘Do you want to come by and play me some stuff and just talk?’”

Since the last album, Band of Horses also released the live Acoustic at the Ryman in 2014, and Bridwell joined up with longtime friend Sam Beam of Iron & Wine for last year’s cover album Sing Into My Mouth. The band has also been celebrating the 10th anniversary of their landmark album Everything All the Time this week with various throwbacks, unreleased material and lyric drafts. An early demo of their hit “The Funeral” can be heard below.
