Santana played the first show of their current run of co-headlining shows with Journey last night at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The show saw the continued reunion of the classic Santana band lineup featuring Carlos Santana, Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello and Michael Shrive, who also have a new album, Santana IV, coming out tomorrow, April 15. Schon and Rolie also co-founded Journey after leaving Santana, and Schon remains a core member of the band, who played after Santana’s opening set last night.

Santana’s set featured a run of songs from the new album near the middle of their performance, with “Shake It,” “Caminando,” “Anywhere You Want To Go” and “Fillmore East,” just before the classic Santana covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “Black Magic Woman,” which can be viewed in the video above, and Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va.”

The legendary guitarist then brought out his current touring band for a run of songs from his 1999 comeback Supernatural, “Maria Maria,” “Corazón Espinado” and “Smooth.” An encore of “Toussaint L’Ouverture” closed out the band’s performance. See the full setlist below.

Schon and Journey closed out the night with a full set of hits showcasing a different side of the guitarist’s style. The show also marked former Journey drummer Steve Smith’s first show with the band since September 1983.

Santana and Journey continue their co-headlining dates tomorrow at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.
