Paul Simon, who will release his 13th solo studio album, Stranger to Stranger, on June 3, recently spoke with NPR Music’s Bob Boilen for his All Songs Considered program about the album, and the legendary songwriter discussed that he has been thinking about hanging up his songwriting gloves after this effort.

As JamBase notes, Simon also speaks to specific parts of Stranger to Stranger, including the album’s single, “The Werewolf.” Simon discusses his consideration of quitting songwriting, saying that it would be difficult but may lead to other endeavors:

Lately I’ve thought quite a bit about not doing it … I wonder what happens if I simply prohibit myself from expressing whatever the creative urge is, if I do not allow that to happen in song or music form. I’m sort of willing to give it a year or so. I think maybe in the beginning it’ll be frustrating and annoying and I’ll want to go back to the other way. But if I stay with the rules maybe I’ll discover some other outlet.
