Phish continued their run at Saratoga’s Performing Arts Center with a first set heavy on tour debuts and a second reliant on improvisation.

Kicking things off with the first “Crowd Control” of the year, the band moved through additional summer tour debuts of “Seven Below” and “Army of One.” A first set “Martian Monster,” which has quickly become a favorite of the band since its debut at their Las Vegas Halloween run, saw Anastasio jump over to the Marimba Lumina for the jam, marking the second time this tour the guitarist has traded in his axe to join Jon Fishman at the drum station.

The cohesive second set delivered by Phish on this night got started with the newest jam vehicle in “No Men in No Man’s Land” which led into a song of the same vein, “Fuego,” which once again stretched out before being paired with an expansive “Light,” anchoring the second set.

While the bulk of the improvisation was done following “Light,” the summer tour debuts of “Taste,” the familiar “The Horse” and “Silent in the Morning” and “Julius” all followed before Page McConnell serenaded the crowd on The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” to close the set, another tour debut.

After an encore of “Bouncing Around the Room” and “Run Like an Antelope,” the group exited but not before one more “They Attack!” quote after Anastasio picked up a shirt that referenced “The Birds” lyric.

Phish return to SPAC tonight.
