Phish continued their summer tour with a stop at the friendly confines of Hartford’s XFINITY Theater shortly after playing the XFINITY Center in Mansfield, MA.

The first set kicked off with just the second “Pigtail” of the summer as Trey Anastasio led the quartet through his song before transitioning to “The Moma Dance” and an early “Birds of a Feather” which once again featured a quote of “The Birds” following the song.

A pair of tour debuts followed as Mike Gordon led the band through “Meat” before Page McConnell got his chance to shine on “Vultures.” From there, the first set rounded out with another Anastasio tune, “Let Me Lie,” played for the first time since August 10, 2010.

The surprise in the first set came at the end as the band kicked into “You Enjoy Myself,” marking the first time it’s appeared in the first set since July 27, 2014. The 18-minute jam saw Anastasio visit Jon Fishman’s station to play some Marimba Lumina as he has throughout the tour. Mike Gordon also switched setups with Page McConnell, as the bassist played keys and McConnell took up the bass.

Set two is highlighted by a nearly 20-minute “Down with Disease” opener that saw the group patiently and cohesively work their way through the improv before landing on “Sand” which found its way into the first “Tela” since October 25, 2014 and just the tenth rendition of the tune in the modern Phish era.

The set closed with a run that featured another old tune in “Carini” before the newer “Twenty Years Later” before the closing combo of “Run Like an Antelope” and “Backwards Down the Number Line.”

For the encore, the group returned to Gamehendge for the second “Lizards” of 2016 before “Loving Cup” brought the show to a close.

Phish continue their tour tonight in Syracuse, NY.
