The String Cheese Incident jammed with jazz virtuoso Kamasi Washington last night at their second of three shows at Red Rocks as Washington opened the show along with his band.

The collaborations started towards the end of the first set as Washington joined the band for a take on John Coltrane’s “Impressions” before Washington and vocalist Sheryl Renee helped Cheese close out the first set with Sly and the Family Stone’s “I Want To Take You Higher.”

Washington returned once again in the second set for Cheese’s Robert Hunter collaboration “45th of November” as well as “Bumpin’ Reel” before Cheese closed the set out with a trio of familiar tunes in “Colorado Bluebird Sky,” “Sirens” and “Desert Dawn.”

For the encore, it was time for one last collaboration with Renee as she added vocals to a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” before the show closing “Believe.”

Cheese returns to Red Rocks tonight. The show will be webcast via nugs.
