Oteil Burbridge sat down with the San Diego Tribune (via Jambase) to discuss the band’s upcoming west coast run along with his future plans with Dead & Company as well as a potential reunion with the Allman Brothers.

“I’m always waiting for that call,” the bassist said. “Gregg texted us not long ago, saying: ‘Hey, maybe we should start thinking about getting something together in 2017.’” After noting that he relayed to Allman he would be available, Burbridge added, “I think the original guys have been talking. We’ll see what happens.”

Burbridge also expanded on his role in Dead & Company, saying that he and drummer Bill Kreutzmann “established a chemistry” in the drummer’s BK3 project. He also says he speaks to Phil Lesh as recently as a few days ago, citing that he has the bassist’s blessing. “I was just talking with Phil a couple of days ago, and he quoted Beethoven: ‘Its’ an artist’s duty to confound expectations, even your own.’”

Another note from the interview includes another confirmation that Bob Weir is seriously considering a Dead & Company album, with Burbridge reportedly “excitedly” noting that the guitarist has “started contemplating” a Dead & Co album.
