Grateful Dead fan Timothy Tyler was previously imprisoned for life after a sentencing in 1994 for selling LSD to a police informant. Yesterday, President Obama granted Tyler and 110 others clemency for their “largely non-violent drug crimes.”

Tyler’s 1992 arrest was his third drug-related arrest, meaning that a life term was the mandatory minimum sentence. The commutation granted by President Obama means that Tyler’s sentence will end on August 30, 2018.

The movement to free Tyler also included a Change.org petition that amassed over 420,000 signatures. The petition was started by Tyler’s sister, Carrie.
