The Disco Biscuits hit the stage at Great North Music Festival last night with a two-set show that saw them cover Frank Zappa with a member from his band and jam with former Dopapod drummer Scott Zwang.

For starters, the band welcomed out Ed Mann, a multi-instrumentalist who spent time in Frank Zappa’s band from 1977 to 1988, appearing on both studio and live recordings from Zappa’s extensive catalog. Mann joined the group on the Zappa/Mothers track “Pygmy Twylyte” to kick off the second set.

As for Zwang, who recently departed from Dopapod as original drummer Neal “Fro” Evans returned, the band brought him out on “Tricycle” late in the second set before the “Little Shimmy in a Conga Line” set closer and “Home Again” finale.
