This past Friday marked what would have been the 75th birthday of legendary soul singer Otis Redding, who passed away in 1967, and The Otis Redding Foundation brought together an all-star group of musicians in Macon, GA, to honor the late icon for an “Evening of Respect” as part of the “Celebrating 75 Years of Otis Redding” weekend event in the city.

The finale concert took place at Macon’s City Auditorium and featured music from St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Andra Day, pianist Chuck Leavell, violinist Robert McDuffie and Stax recording artists Steve Cropper, Eddie Floyd and William Bell, along with a reunion of the ’80s hit group The Reddings.

Gregg Allman was also in attendance, and the night included video tributes from the likes of Lionel Richie, Charles Bradley, Allen Stone, Whoopi Goldberg, Randy Jackson and Lalah Hathaway.

The night, which also featured a choir made up of local students who sang with Day and by themselves, rounded out with all artists coming together for a run of Redding’s ubiquitous hit “(Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay.”
