Gov’t Mule continued the rehash of their summer Smokin’ Mule tour with openers Blackberry Smoke last night, keeping up the tradition of sit ins from the opening act that they kept up every night during that tour.

The first guest of the night, however, were frequent Mule collaborators Craig Sorrells and Mike Barnes. Sorrells added his trumpet to “Forsaken Savior” before guitarist Barnes joined in for Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam.”

After a set-closing run that included Muddy Waters’ “You Need Love” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” Mule returned to the stage and welcomed out their Blackberry Smoke friends Charlie Starr and Brandon Still, who helped out on David Crosby’s “Almost Cut My Hair” before their bandmate Richard Turner replaced Jorgen Carlsson on bass for the show-ending cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Loser.”

Gov’t Mule play one more show with Blackberry Smoke tonight at the CMCU Amphitheatre in Charlotte, NC.
