The October 24 issue of The New Yorker includes a feature on Democratic Vice President candidate Tim Kaine. In the article, Kaine, a harmonica player who recently dueled with John Popper on Live with Jimmy Kimmel notes, “After Toots Thielemans died, he’s now the man. Toots Thielemans was the man, and played a different style—Toots played chromatic and was a jazz player—but, since he died, Popper’s the guy.” Kaine also mentions that he is the midst of reading Popper’s memoir Suck and Blow: And Other Stories I’m Not Supposed to Tell (written with Jambands.com founder/Relix editor Dean Budnick) and has recently completed Elvis Costello’s autobiography, as well as Bob Mehr’s biography of the Replacements, Trouble Boys. Kaine’s appearance with Popper on Kimmel appears below.
