Brooklyn Comes Alive took over the New York City borough this past weekend, bringing a slew of collaborations and one-off supergroups to Brooklyn Bowl, Music Hall of Williamsburg and The Hall at MP.

Early in the day at The Hall at MP, pianist Holly Bowling got things started with a set of Phish and Grateful Dead tunes, including a guest spot from vocalist Elise Testone in the “Sugaree” closer. Kung Fu’s Tim Palmieri later led a group that featured his bandmate Rob Somerville and Soulive drummer Alan Evans, among others, for a set that included covers of Funkadelic, Santana and more. Reed Mathis and his Electric Beethoven project took over the venue’s stage later in the afternoon for some improvisational takes on Beethoven’s music that included a sit in from The Disco Biscuits’ Aron Magner and saxophonist Skerik. The All Brothers Band, which featured Oteil and Kofi Burbridge and Neal and Alan Evans, later made their live debut, while The Coomes Brothers, which includes Lettuce guitarist “Jesus” Coomes and The Shady Horns took the stage later in the night. After Roosevelt Collier brought his Get Down to the stage, String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann rounded out the venue with his Rhythmatronix project featuring Oteil Burbridge, Todd Stoops and more, along with sit ins from Kofi Burbridge and Testone.

Over at Music Hall of Williamsburg, DJ Logic got things started with an improv set that also featured some Daft Punk in the middle before The Disco Biscuits’ Marc Brownstein had a DJ set. A tribute to J Dilla preceded a full Brasstracks set, then Breaking Biscuits, a mashup of Break Science and The Disco Biscuits, came out to cover Air, DJ Shadow and more. Manic Focus came out with a “Friends” set that included guests Stoops, Jake Barinholtz and Brasstracks.

Brooklyn Bowl’s festivities kicked off with Ripe, who covered The Lion King‘s “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” Ellie Goulding’s “On My Side” and welcomed The Nth Power’s Courtney Smith for the closer. A supergroup of Scott Metzger, Joe Russo, Robert Walter and Andy Hess kept things going with covers of The Meters, The Beatles, The Band and more. Natalie Cressman later brought another group of all-stars and brought up Testone once again for a guest spot. The Nth Power then hosted a Earth Wind & Power tribute that included covers of EW&F favorites like “September,” “Jupiter” and more. DRKWAV, the collaboration of John Medeski, Adam Deitch and Skerik, rounded things out with their brand of swampy jazz and improv.
