Voodoo Dead, the New Orleans-tinged outfit that interprets both the music of the Grateful Dead and the Crescent City, stopped by New York’s Irving Plaza last night as part of Nolafunk’s Mardi Gras tour, and the collective ended up welcoming out a couple guests in guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer and vocalist Leslie Mendelson.

Voodoo Dead consists of Steve Kimock, Oteil Burbridge, Jackie Greene, Jeff Chimenti and Wally Ingram, along with Papa Mali. As JamBase reports, the night featured Dead staples like “Dark Star,” “The Other One,” “Going Down the Road Feeling Bad,” “Eyes of the World” and “In the Midnight Hour,” and the collective brought out 13-year-old phenom Niederauer for a jam on The Meters’ NOLA classic “Cissy Strut.” Watch a video of that collaboration below.

Voodoo Dead continue their run tonight, kicking off a two-night stand at Pennsylvania’s Ardmore Music Hall.
