Today marks what would have been the 75th birthday of legendary Velvet Underground frontman and solo artist Lou Reed, who passed away in 2013, and an announcement was made this morning that the musician’s archives have been acquired by the New York Public Library, who held a press conference today featuring Laurie Anderson and Reed’s sister to announce the acquisition and preview the collection.

As Brooklyn Vegan notes, the press conference took place at NYPL for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, where the organization hopes to install a listening room to showcase the archives. Some of the audio recordings and memorabilia previewed today will be on display at that building and at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building through March 20.
