As previously announced, Bob Weir made a short-notice appearance with his old Grateful Dead bandmate Phil Lesh last night, as both musicians joined up with the Terrapin Family Band at the bar at Terrapin Crossroads for a free show to kick off the venue’s fifth anniversary celebrations this week#.

The night featured plenty of Dead favorites, opening up with “Uncle John’s Band” and fitting “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleoo” and “Not Fade Away” into the first set, along with the Weir favorite “Loose Lucy” and his own solo tune “Gonesville.” The group also nodded to late Band drummer Levon Helm, who’s Midnight Ramble jams at his barn in Upstate New York inspired the creation of Terrapin Crossroads, with a cover of “The Shape I’m In.”

The second set feature another Weir solo cut, “Lay My Lily Down,” along with more Dead staples like “Bertha,” “New Speedway Boogie,” “Music Never Stopped” featuring Nicki Bluhm and the set-closing “Ripple.” After some thank you remarks from venue proprietor Lesh, the group rounded out the night with a Weir-led encore of “Johnny B. Goode.”
