Don Hunstein, famed music photographer, died on March 18 in New York City after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The New York Times reported on his death.

Over his storied career, Hunstein worked with the likes of Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis (including photographing Davis’ cover for his Nefertiti record), Janis Joplin and many others. His most notable photograph came of Bob Dylan and girlfriend Suze Rotolo that would end up as the cover for his second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.

Hunstein worked as a staff photographer for Columbia Records for nearly 30 years and shot Dylan with Rotolo in New York City in 1963 for what would become the cover of his second album.

Hunstein is survived by his son Peter and daughter Tina.
