John Warren Geils Jr., best known as J. Geils in the rock group of the same name, was reportedly found dead in his Massachusetts home early Tuesday morning.

Boston’s WCVB TV reported the news and added that authorities are operating under the indiction that Geils passed away due to natural causes and foul play is not suspected. He was 71.

Geils formed The J. Geils Band in Worcester, MA in the late 1960s and went on to achieve mainstream success with the band throughout the 70s and 80s including hits like “Centerfold” and “Freeze Frame.”

Geils, citing a strife between bandmates Peter Wolf and Seth Justman, would break up The J. Geils Band in 1985 only to reform in 1999 for a run of shows, only performing sporadically after that. The band was nominated numerous times for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but has not been inducted.
