After the passing of legendary jamband godfather Col. Bruce Hampton after a tribute concert in his honor early this morning, musicians who knew him are beginning to share their thoughts and memories, including bassist Oteil Burbridge, whose rise to fame in the Allman Brothers Band and Dead & Company was preceded by his time in Hampton’s Aquarium Rescue Unit, which helped musicians like Burbridge and Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring gain widespread acclaim in the ’90s.

Captioning the above photo that was posted on his Facebook page, Burbridge had some touching words to say about his former collaborator and mentor, saying that Hampton “changed the entire trajectory of my life. He literally ‘changed my mind.’”

If you’re lucky enough, you’ll meet someone who will show you the impossible over and over again until one day you find yourself doing things you never thought you possibly could.
