Noted San Francisco poster artist Dave Hunter has passed away after a battle with cancer that began last fall, his website confirmed (via JamBase).

A close friend of Steve Kimock and prominent figure in the San Francisco music scene since the ’80s, Hunter worked with artists like Gov’t Mule, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Dr. John, Les Claypool and more, along with various bands in the Grateful Dead community.

A benefit concert to raise money for Hunter’s medical bills will now donate its proceeds to his daughter, Jasmine, as will the fund set up for Hunter before his passing. The show, taking place at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on May 12, will feature Kimock along with Jeff Chimenti, Bobby Vega, John Kimock and Leslie Mendelson, with Wavy Gravy as host and a poster show during the event.

Tickets and more information on the show can be found here.
