Dead & Company opened their summer tour last night at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The evening began with an expansive “The Music Never Stopped” that saw both Bob Weir and John Mayer on vocals. Weir and Mayer also shared singing duties on a few songs that followed, not only “Jack Straw” as customary but also “Friend of the Devil” and “Bird Song.” The second set opened with an intriguing pairing of “Playin’ In The Band” and “Deal.” Later, following an animated “Drums” > “Space” and a rousing “The Other One,” Weir sang an emotional version of the Jerry Garcia-Robert Hunter tune “Black Peter.” The set closed with a fitting “One More Saturday Night.” When Dead & Co. then returned for their encore they performed Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” in memory of Gregg Allman, with Allman’s image projected behind the group, along with an Allman Brothers Band logo.

The complete setlist appears below, drawn from our Box Scores section.

Tonight Dead & Company will perform at Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ.
