The Monterey International Pop Festival will host a series of tributes to the inaugural event, held fifty years to the day in 1967. A number of artists on the current lineup will pay tribute to an original artist by covering a song in their own set.

Among them, Jack Johnson (Steve Miller Band), Leon Bridges (Otis Redding), The Head and the Heart (The Mamas & The Papas), Gary Clark Jr. (Jimi Hendrix), Jim James (The Who), Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (Big Brother & The Holding Company) and Nicki Bluhm & the Dirty Dozen Brass Band (Jefferson Airplane).

“I grew up with Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding live at the Monterey Pop Festival playing in my house all the time,” Jack Johnson said. “I love the spirit in those recordings. I can’t wait to be part of such a special musical experience.”

Monterey Pop is slated for June 16-18 in Monterey, CA also featuring the likes of Phil Lesh, Norah Jones, Dr. Dog, Regina Spektor, Charles Bradley and more. Tickets are available here.
