Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile will release a collaborative album together later this year and head out on tour with a band that includes members of Sleater-Kinney, Warpaint and more.

The album, which will be released later this year, is a result of eight days in the studio spread out over almost 15 months as Barnett and Vile navigated their respective busy schedules.

The tour features both artists teaming up for new songs as well as material from their respective catalogs with a backing band that includes Sleater-Kinney’s Janet Weiss, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, Rob Laakso (The Violators) and Katie Harkin (touring member of Sleater-Kinney).

“I just love her voice in general,” Vile said of Barnett. “Great lyrics of course. I love all her music but the song that really hit me was ‘Depreston,’ her voice is so good in that song.”

For her part, Barnett said she’s a “huge” fan of Vile. “Smoke Ring was one of my first purchases on vinyl. I was getting over a big break-up, unemployed and drifting and I would just lie on my bed and listen to ‘Peepin’ Tom’ on repeat. One of the most beautiful and luscious albums I ever heard. Me and Jen fell in love to that album.”
