Jon Fishman is officially an elected official, as the Phish drummer successfully completed his run for local office in Maine and has been elected a selectman in his adopted hometown of Lincolnville, the Bangor Daily News reports

Fishman will serve as part of the five-person selectboard in Lincolnville, garnering the second-most votes in the election. The top vote-getter was Josh Gerritsen, filmmaker and son of novelist Tess Gerritsen.

Upon announcing his run for office, Fishman said he was inspired by former presidential nominee Bernie Sanders, for whom Fishman campaigned during the run up to the 2016 Democratic nomination of Hillary Clinton.

“I guess I could sit on my butt somewhere and not be engaged,” the drummer said when announcing his candidacy. “But we do have a personal stake in the well-being of the town…If I’m going to do it, I want to do a good job. I’m going to be engaged, and I have no interest in doing it half-assed.”
