Jason Isbell is currently out on tour with his 400 Unit in support of their new album The Nashville Sound, which dropped last week, and the collective brought their show through New York City last night for a show at the Beacon Theatre that, as JamBase notes, ended up turning into a tribute to the late Gregg Allman and the Allman Brothers Band.

First off, during her opening set, singer, violinist and 400 Unit member herself Amanda Shires nodded to the Allman with a cover of his classic “Midnight Rider,” with some help from husband and musical partner Isbell on guitar and backing vocals.

Continuing the tribute to the band that played countless iconic shows on the Beacon stage, including their expansive farewell concerts in the fall of 2014, Isbell’s main set closed out with a two-song encore of new album standout “If We Were Vampires” and the decidedly raucous “Whipping Post,” debuted by Isbell this past weekend, prompting the Beacon audience to sing along during the song’s belted chorus.
