In a new interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dave Matthews revealed that a new album from Dave Matthews Band is in the works with an expected release date “hopefully the beginning of next year.”

Matthews said that before heading out to prepare for Farm Aid, he reconvened with drummer Carter Beauford. “[We] were recording some music together,” Matthews said. “We have a lot of stuff, so my plan is that we’ll put together some music this fall so we can have something out hopefully the beginning of next year.”

Matthews added that he thinks “we have some great music and some stuff that Carter and I worked on that’s added to the pile. There’s a lot to choose from.”

During the band’s 2016 summer tour, they road-tested a number of tunes including “Samurai Cop,” “Bob Law,” “Bismarck,” “Death on the High Seas,” “Plastic Girl” and others.

DMB’s last record came in the form of 2012’s Away from the World.
