Greensky Bluegrass brought their tour to the Millennium Center in Winston-Salem, NC, last night, and surprised their fans with a special second set of all Grateful Dead tunes, the latest addition to the band’s “Casual Wednesday” offerings.

As JamBase reports, after a first set of originals (and a cheeky “Shakedown Street” tease in set closer “Worried About the Weather”), Greensky emerged on stage for the second frame and eased into their tune “Casual Wednesday,” which they have used in the past to kick off special sets. Before getting into the set proper, Dobro player Anders Beck addressed the crowd, explaining that, “Here at Greensky Bluegrass, we celebrate Wednesdays” (and that he himself has experienced 2,086 Wednesdays).

“Casual Wednesdays” then bled into a spirited “Eyes of the World,” which kicked off an entire set and encore of Dead tunes, including favorites like “Friend of the Devil,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider,” “Black Muddy River,” “The Other One” and “Cassidy.” The night was then appropriately closed out with “Shakedown Street.”
