While Tedeschi Trucks Band were the main event at Sunshine Music Festival, Mike Gordon and his band made waves of their own, debuting their version of the formerly illusive Phish original “Destiny Unbound,” as well as a cover of Tower of Power’s “You Strike My Main Nerve.”

Spread out over two days in two Florida cities, Sunshine Music Festival gave Gordon two opportunities to perform with his band which includes guitarist Scott Murawski, keyboardist Robert Walter, drummer John Morgan Kimock and bassist Craig Myers.

On Saturday, Gordon and his band were particularly jammy, opening with a “Stealing Jamaica”> “Say Something” segment. The band then launched into another two-song jam, playing “Marissa” into one of Phish’s go-to Talking Heads tunes, “Cities.” Gordon kept the Phish vibes coming when he busted out “Destiny Unbound,” a song he teased during a recent Instagram livestream. After diving into Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” and his own Overstep track “Tiny Little World,” Gordon wrapped up his first set at Sunshine Music Festival with “Pendulum.” There was no encore.

Gordon & Company’s Sunday set in Boca Raton started off with a duo of songs off of their newest output OGOGO (“Victim 3D” and “Whirlwind”) followed by their new Tame Impala standby “Mind Mischief.” The band then tipped their cap to Murawski’s former band Max Creek with a cover of “Cruel World,” before debuting Tower of Power’s “You Strike My Main Nerve.” Gordon closed out his single set with Phish’s “Meat” and yet another OGOGO track “Crazy Sometimes.”
