Iconic New Orleans venue Tipitina’s will apparently host the reunion of another Big Easy institution, Papa Grows Funk, the group led by singer and keyboardist John “Papa” Gros that broke up in 2013.

A concert poster on the wall of Tipitina’s (see below) announces a PGF reunion show on May 7, dubbed “One More Monday.” The group was known for its weekly Monday-night shows at the Maple Leaf Bar, where they held the residency for over a decade. PGF played their final Monday show at the venue on May 6, 2013, and their final show as a band at Tipitina’s on June 29, 2013.

Now, nearly five years since they took the Tip’s stage together, Gros and his band, which at the time featured guitarist June Yamagishi, bassist Marc Pero, saxophonist Jason Mingledorff and drummer Jeffery “Jellybean” Alexander, will reunite at the same venue, although no details or official announcement has been provided at this time.

A recently premiered documentary, Do U Want It?, chronicles Papa Grows Funk and their impact on the musical community of New Orleans. Learn more about the film here.
