As reports of violence continue to swirl around Phish’s recent three-night run at The Gorge, fans are banding together to help Joe Allen Jr. a longtime fan who was assaulted at the venue on Saturday, July 21.

“Near the end of the second set of music a man assaulted Joe with a rock to the back of his head then disappeared into the crowd,”
Allen’s GoFundMe page reads. “Joe was rushed to a local medical facility where he had to have pressure relieved from the swelling in his brain.”

The Grant County Sheriff’s office tweeted on the afternoon of July 24, asking fans to share any information about violence over the weekend. “If anyone personally witnessed an assault at the Gorge please call us at 509-762-1160 or email [email protected],” they wrote. “We’re investigating and want to hear from you.”

A press release by the Sherriff’s office also confirmed that there were two assault victims reported on the night of the 24th. The victims are confirmed as “a 46-year-old man from Washington state and a 38-year-old man from Colorado” who “each suffered head injuries and were transported to regional hospitals for treatment. One victim is hospitalized in stable condition, the other was treated and released.”

Both victims were struck with rocks around the same time, but in completely different locations.

The other fan affected, Samir Poles, posted his recollection of the evening on Facebook. “As I was walking back from the bathroom to meet my friends a really big dude who was waiting in the shadows put a bowling ball sized rock thru my face > I wake up on the ground gushing blood through the whole [sic] in my mouth where my teeth used to be.”

Poles was released from the hospital, and hopes to be “back Phishin’ by festival 11.”
