Medeski, Martin & Wood drummer Billy Martin will release a new solo percussion album, titled Black Elk Speaks, November 23 on his own label, Amulet Records. The record is based the book of the same name. When I started reading the book, all my current solo work had fallen into place with the feeling I was getting from Black Elk’s description of our world, says Martin. The CD features 22 tracks, all of which are solo performances by Martin, with the exception of Stridulations, performed by the Komodo Whirligig Orchestra. Only 900 copies of the album will be printed and each will be hand-numbered and signed by Billy. They will be available online at www.amuletrecords.com and at MMW concerts.
