Umphreys McGee fans have the Niles, Michigan Police Department to thank for the survival of a few rare songs. The group had planned to permanently retire certain tunes from its repertoire at its fan-sponsored RIP show on September 19, but was unable to finish the gig due to noise complaints. Earlier this summer, the band members promised to play a few of their older songs one last time if fans could generate the $2,000 necessary to put on the free concert in Niles. Alas, the cops rolled in and shut down the event. The band had only played one of the rarities Bob which hadnt been performed since October of 2000.
The sextet has now announced plans to finish the job on November 1 at the Kalamazoo State Theater in Michigan, where additional compositions will be laid to rest. For a list of songs that may soon die, visit www.umphreys.com.
