Primus has announced its return to the road and plans to release an extensive 3-hour DVD and EP. The group will tour this fall with original drummer Tim Alexander, who will join bassist Les Claypool and guitarist Larry LaLonde. The trio plans to release Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People on October 7. The two disc package includes a DVD featuring music videos, documentary footage and live performances spanning the groups career. Also included is an EP consisting of five new songs. It seems of late that bands are adding supplemental DVD material to their album releases to promote record sales, says Claypool. We’ve done the opposite. We’ve added a supplemental audio recording of brand new music to an extremely comprehensive DVD of classic visuals. Also, we’ve enlisted the incredible talents of some local artists to create a cutting edge, interactive interface.
The Tour de Fromage kicks off in mid-October and will feature two sets of music each night. The first set will be comprised of various Primus material from different eras. The second set will be a one time only complete performance of Sailing The Seas of Cheese. The spontaneous visual presentation and the varied song selection will insure that no two performances will be the same,’ adds Claypool. ‘It has been an incredible period of growth for me as an artist and performer. And one thing I have gained from this time away from Primus is a huge respect for the unique creative chemistry that Larry, Tim and I have together.’
Most specific tour dates are still being determined, but a few have been announced: October 17 at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, October 21 at the Fillmore in Denver, and Halloween at the Warfield in San Francisco.
