In a manner reminiscent of Clark Kent, Susan Tedeschi stepped away from her vantage point at a table in the audience of the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den, darted backstage, removed her glasses, and joined the Derek Trucks Band for two songs on Friday night. Tedeschi, who was in attendance watch her husband Derek and his group, took the stage for a cover of Paul Pena’s ‘Gonna Move’ (the DTB backs her version of this song on her latest disc) and bluesy take on the group’s ‘Joyful Noise.’ In both instances she shared vocal duties with DTB singer Mike Mattison (to the point of switching microphones between verses so that each would have an opportunity to be front and center).
On the previous evening, Trucks joined 90 year pianist and former Muddy Waters and Earl Hooker collaborator, Pinetop Perkins for much of Perkins’ opening set at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT.
The Derek Trucks Band’s next gig is at the new Ultra venue in Providence on Tuesday.
