Former, founding Umphrey’s McGee drummer Mike Mirro took the stage with the band again last night at the Vic in Chicago. Mirro left Umphrey’s in January to enter medical school and Kris Myers now sits behind the kit. During the second set at the Vic, Myers announced that he was quitting the band and left the stage, at which point Umphrey’s began soliciting drummers. This in turn led to the return of Mirro who stepped in for ‘Hurt Bird Bath’ and remained on stage for a few songs before yielding way to Myers (whose resignation was feigned, lest that eluded you). Mirro had also performed the previous night during the late night Xoanon’s Heartbreak show at the Bottom Lounge joining a group that included former UM bandmates Jake Cinninger and Joel Cummins and many others, including Alan Hertz (KVHW, Garaj Mahal), Michael ‘Mad Dog’ Mavridoglou (Ray’s Music Exchange, Jazz Mandolin Project) and Eric Levy (Garaj Mahal).
