Umphrey’s McGee, which is currently in the Atlantic, on board the Jam Cruise, will be joined by saxophonist Joshua Redman for four shows in February. Umphrey’s, which recently released Local band Does Oklahoma, a live disc to follow up its Local Band Does Ok studio effort, will perform a set by itself as well as one set with Redman on Feb 18-21 (at Boston’s Paradise, the TLA in Philadelphia, NYC’s Bowery Ballroom and the Funk Box in Baltimore). Redman will follow up these gigs with his own intriguing project in March, a west coast tour of the SF Modern Jazz Collective. The saxophone player will be the artistic director of the group which will also include Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone, marimba), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Brian Blade (drums), Renee Rosnes (piano), Robert Hurst (bass), Joshua Roseman (trombone), and Miguel Zenon (alto saxophone). Umphrey’s will leave the boat on this Saturday and play a gig that night at The Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale.
