Norfolk, Virginia’s NorVa is the site of an intriguing on-off collaboration on June 25. S.W.A.T. is comprised of Melvin Sparks on guitar, Rob Wasserman on bass, Matt Abts on drums, and Topaz on saxophone. Jason Bruner, who once performed with Quiver before founding his QuiVa Productions company, put the show together. He explains, ‘The whole idea was based around the after-party events I witnessed in New Orleans during Jazzfest in 2000. I have always wanted to host a super-jam and what better way than to do it during the Bayou Boogaloo (which is a 3 day mini-jazzfest held at Town Point Park in Norfolk, VA). So I called a few friends and before I knew it, we had 4 great musicians excited about it.’
