In an odd turn of events, big business is giving The Slip a boost. The Boston-based trio has received The 2004 Heineken USA / ASCAP Foundation Grant for Best Pop/Rock Song in Boston. At a friend s recommendation, the trio entered its song ‘Children of December’ into competition, earning a $2,000 grant. The Slip also listed the grant competitions they have lost in recent months: The 2004 Miss America Theme Song Grant for Best Inspirational Song (‘Wolof’), The 2004 Friends of Baby Tigers Grant for Best Rock Ballad (‘Camp Shuey’), and The 2004 Monster Trucks of Malasia Foundation Grant for Best Overall Artistic Contribution by a Human Being or a Group of Human Beings Ever Award (‘Hey Worrier’). For more on how The Slip learned to sell more without selling out, please check out Benjy Eisen s recent feature in the current issue of Relix magazine
